Physics Motion in a Straight Line Mix Comprehension (MCQ)

Buses are going from one city to other and vice-versa. The buses start at regular interval of 5 minutes each from station A to B and station B to A each with same speed 60 km/h. The distance between two stations is 30 km. A bus marked A starts from city A and finds buses approaching from opposite direction.

(i) What is the time interval after which bus A will meet two buses coming from opposite side?

Ans.

(i)

Sol. t = Relative Disp. / Relative velocity

 Relative Disp. = Distance traveled by each bus is 5 min. = × 60 = 5 km

Relative velocity = 60 + 60 = 120 km/h

∴ t = h = × 60 min = 2.5 min

(ii)

Sol. Distance = speed × time = 60 × = 2.5 km

(iii)

Sol.  Each bus takes 30 min to reach another city

∴ total no. of buses it meets = – 1 = 11

(12 th bus just start motion)
